The Revenant: Teaser Trailer Revealed

The teaser trailer for The Revenant was released today by 20th Century Fox. Set for UK release on 15th January 2016, during Oscar season, the film is to be directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and will feature a stellar cast including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Domhill Gleeson (Ex Machina).

An adaptation of Michael Punke’s novel, The Revenant follows an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness where legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by his hunting team. On a quest of survival, Glass endures unimaginable grief and is betrayed by his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy).

01The trailer suggests a promising, intense performance by DiCaprio, emitting raw emotions in what’s essentially a survival film. As a whole, this teaser envisages scenes of high energy with a score that creates great suspense, making you long for it to be longer than two minutes. DiCaprio goes from killing Native Americans to coexisting with them in order to survive, thus conjuring up an interesting story and sparking our curiosity.

Most notably, Emmanuel Lubezki (Birdman, Gravity) looks like the guy to hire if you’re wanting some fantastic cinematography, capturing a harsh landscape and a whole lot of action superbly. However, we’ll have to see the entirety of the film before saying he’s deserving of an Oscar nomination.

Could this be Leonardo DiCaprio’s time to win the shiny golden man? We’ll have to wait and see, what with some powerful contenders in the form of Tom Hanks (Bridge of Spies), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw).
